The last time I went anywhere near my boarding school (the nearest town), I started getting PTSD symptoms. 11 ex-staff/related persons from the school have been criminally convicted for abuse, and abuse spanned many years. Today, I went there with my family to see if I could manage it. In the video below I go around the school sharing some of my experiences. I don’t talk about the worst things that happened, only the things that are more easily digestible.
I was glad to see that I could visit the grounds without having PTSD symptoms. In the video I mention:
How you can view traumatic events differently in your 40’s to your 20’s.
How it can take a while to retrain your brain and body to know that the danger that existed for you in a place back then, doesn’t necessarily still exist today.
How abusers don’t just groom victims, but bystanders, so that they will have defenders when needed.
Thanks bro for sharing!
