The other day I met up with abuse survivors from my old boarding school. It was a very powerful time. In some cases we were reuniting with old friends who we hadn’t even realised had been abused. So it was very painful to realise what had happened to old friends. I took the next day off work so that I could process all of this, and grieve and count the losses. I made a video sharing my process, and I talk about the following:
The Bitter-Sweet feeling of meeting up with friends who have been abused.
The importance of counting and mourning the losses.
The feeling of anger, and pointing it in the right direction.
When an old memory resurfaces.
The sense of awe at being in the presence of survivors.
At the end of the video I give a message to any abuse survivors anywhere who are just hanging on by a thread. If you think this would be helpful to anyone please do share it with them.
